The Town of Auburn, NH is seeking its first Highway Department Employees.  The Town has historically relied upon an elected Road Agent and local contractors to perform all highway work, and is starting to bring some work “in-house” with the hiring of 1-2 employees.

Highway Director

The Director is responsible for the town’s road, bridge, and drainage assets – supervising all maintenance, storm response, and operations.  This is a hands-on, salaried, management position.  The Director will work independently to perform maintenance and plowing work, hire and direct contractors and vendors, supervise the small number of employees, and manage department budgeting and planning in conjunction with town officials. Storm and emergency response requires proximity to Auburn and on-call availability.

The ideal candidate will have:

Experience supervising employees and/or contractors;

A variety of technical skills related to road maintenance;

Knowledge of workplace hazards and safety procedures;

Experience with snow removal operations.

The Town is able to provide additional training and management support to the right candidate.  As Auburn begins to build a permanent, staffed department, we are seeking a long-term team player who will grow and evolve with the position. 

This is a full-time, salaried position with a competitive municipal benefits package including a quality health and dental insurance program, and participation in the NH Retirement System.  Salary range $75-$85k, depending on qualifications and experience.

Highway & Grounds Laborer

The Town of Auburn, NH is seeking a Highway and Grounds Laborer/Driver.  Duties include maintenance of roads, bridges, and drainage systems, plus plow snow and perform other storm response and general labor duties.  A CDL is not required.

Ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:

Snow removal operations;

Operating trucks and light equipment;

Skilled with small hand and power tools;

Knowledge of workplace hazards and safety procedures

Storm and emergency response requires proximity to Auburn and on-call availability.  This is a full-time, 40 hour/week position, overtime will be required, particularly during winter.  Compensation includes a competitive municipal benefits package including a quality health and dental insurance program, vacation, and participation in the NH Retirement System.  Starting wage $20.69-$25.22/hr.
