Women P.O.W.E.R. Self Defense

Join 5th Degree Black Belt Todd Bedard on Saturday, February 3rd at Auburn Village School from 9am to 12pm for his Woman P.O.W.E.R. self-defense course for women ages 18 and over. This comprehensive 3-hour course will cover all the necessary minimums that all women should know in concerns to their own self-defense. Wrist grabs, choke holds, and ground defense; those are just a few of the things that you will learn to defend yourself against with confidence. You will learn how to use an attacker’s size, strength, and ego to YOUR advantage. You will learn that you are stronger than you may think you are. We will also cover strategies and methods to avoid attacks all together.

Todd will be assisted by Brenda Finnegan (an Auburn resident and accomplished Martial Artist and self-defense practitioner).  The fee for this class is only $10 that will be donated to Emily’s Place, a shelter for women and their families that have suffered through domestic abuse.

To register for this class, please fill out the form listed on the "forms" page and return it to the Parks and Recreation Department at the Town Hall or mail to PO Box 309, Auburn.  Checks can be written to “YWCA NH”.  Class size is limited so register today.  If you have any questions, please contact Amy at 603-483-5052 x101 or email at recreation@townofauburnNH.com.

Winter Carnival

The Parks and Recreation Department and the Fire Department will once again be sponsoring the Annual Winter Carnival.  This event will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at the Skating Rink at the Safety Complex from 1:00 to 4:00 pm.  Fingers crossed that we will have great weather with lots of ice and snow.

The Winter Carnival will include open skate time with a DJ, the annual burning of the Christmas Trees, roasting marshmallows as well as hamburgers, hotdogs, hot chocolate, and if the weather cooperates, a snow hill!  Please keep in mind that this event is dependent on the weather.   As we get closer to the day, we will post any updates or changes on our Facebook page (@AuburnNHParksandRec) and on the website (AuburnNH.us/parks-and-recreation)

The Fire Department is accepting Christmas Trees for the Burning of the Trees.  You can drop them off at the Safety Complex.  Or, to make it easy for you, the Boy Scouts will pick up your Christmas Tree for a $10 donation.  For more information or to sign up for this service, contact Karrye Berglund at karryeb@gmail.com.

Lil' Yogis

Children ages 3-5 are invited to join our new Lil’ Yogis program which blends yoga, play, dance, music and drama.  Your child will enjoy simple poses, games, music and breathing exercises, in a fun family atmosphere. Yoga at an early age encourages self-esteem and body awareness with a physical activity that's noncompetitive.

Our enthusiastic instructor Maura Barber is a certified Yoga Instructor for children through the YogaFit Kids program.  Maura also has a degree in Early Childhood Education, Master's Degree in Social Work and is a fitness instructor though Jazzercise since 2008.  Working with families and their children has been her focus for the past 25 years.  “I have learned that yoga is a great gift to give children.
