The Board of Selectmen hires a Town Administrator to serve as the Chief Administrative Officer for the Town. The Town Administrator serves at the pleasure of the Board of Selectmen and provides a wide range of support to the Board, researching items of interest and preparing reports on matters of general importance to the organization in general, and the Board in particular, which often form the basis of ordinances and policies set by the Board. It is the Administrator’s responsibility to ensure these various policies on personnel, financial and purchasing practices, and a wide variety of matters are carried out. The Administrator also represents the Town at various functions and organizations such as state and federal agencies, the New Hampshire Legislature and other regional entities.

The Town Administrator assists the Selectmen in carrying out their duties. The Town Administrator takes part in most discussions that come before the Board, but acts in a non-voting advisory capacity.

  • Answers public inquiries, responds to requests, coordinates many administrative tasks within the Town Office
  • Seeks daily to assist and manage the functions of the Town in an efficient and prudent manner

The Finance Director’s responsibilities include overall budget management and accounting responsibilities including oversight of accounts payable, payroll and financial reporting.  Other key areas include human resources management, risk management and oversight of information technology.   In terms of human resources, the Finance Director manages the Town’s overall benefit systems include medical, dental and disability insurance, NH Retirement System compliance, and voluntary deferred compensation, supplemental insurance and similar programs.  Risk management is inclusive of the Town’s workers compensation, unemployment compensation and property & liability responsibilities and coverages.

The Finance Director handles the financial resources of the Town in a safe, fair, accurate, and efficient manner. The Finance Director also helps ensure the Town conducts it’s in accordance with all Federal, State, and Local laws, and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.

The Finance Director is authorized to act in the absence of the Town Administrator.

The Finance Assistant is the front line position for the processing of payroll, accounts payable and personnel related benefits for all Town departments.   The Finance Assistant also handles general purchasing agent functions and serves as one of the managers for the Town’s web site, in addition to providing confidential clerical and operational service to the Board of Selectmen, Town Administrator and the Finance Director.
