Highway Safety Committee

January 18, 2012

 

 

Present:  Mr. Paul Raiche, Selectman, Lt. Ray Pelton, police representative, and Mr. Dan Carpenter.

 

The meeting was called to order at 7:00.  Helen Hiltz, Highway Safety Committee secretary, was recording minutes. 

 

The December meeting minutes were reviewed.  Mr. Paul Raiche made a motion to accept the meeting minutes. Mr. Mike Dross 2nd the motion.  All in favor.

 

Police report :

 

Lt. Ray Pelton reported that there were 10 traffic accidents last month.  9 of the accidents were injury free.  Only one resulted in an injury and one resulted in a DWI.  Four of the accidents took place during an ~4 hour span during the last snow storm.  Three telephone poles were damaged. 

 

Lt. Pelton noted the following statistics for 2011:

 

There were five grants that were completed in 2011.

A total of 51 three to four hour patrols were completed as a result of the grants.

367 traffic stops occurred.

40 traffic tickets were issued.

11 DWI patrols resulted in 5 arrests.

 

Lt. Pelton is working on another grant.  The grant will be presented to the Highway Safety Committee at the next meeting.

 

Road Agent report:

 

Mr. Mike Dross asked Mrs. Hiltz to report that FEMA funds have been approved for the October 31 snow storm.  He has not received a final total but anticipates that it will be in the $75,000 to $100,000 range.

 

Mrs. Hiltz will contact Mr. Dross to confirm the 302 hours of plowing that was discussed at the last meeting.

 

Town Report:

 

Mrs. Hiltz will review all Highway Safety Committee meeting minutes to extract 2011 information for the town report.  She will contact Mr. Mike Dipitrio, Chairman, to discuss the report and will develop a draft for review and submittal.  Mrs. Hiltz will also contact Mr. Mike Dross to determine when the “no parking” signs will be put on Old Hooksett road and at the Safety Complex field.

 

Mr. Dan Carpenter suggested that a notation be made in the town report that Hooksett Road and Route 121 are state roads, not town roads. 

 

Mr. Paul Raiche made a motion to adjourn at 7:25.  Second by Lt. Ray Pelton.  All in favor.

 

Next meeting will be Februar15, 2012 at 7:00 PM at the Safety Complex.
