MINUTES The minutes of the meeting on 01/10 were approved. The minutes from the meeting on 02/02/10 were revised to read Alan Villeneuve made the motion to adjourn the meeting and Anne Gagnon seconded the motion. Also, in the minutes from 02/02/10, in the section under Old Business, Mosquitos: Larvas was changed to read larvae. The minutes were approved.
OLD BUSINESS ROAD SALT: Jill Morrison will contact the NH DOT, Bureau of Environment to find out how salt affects the vegetation and watershed and the ability of the watershed to retain water, etc. MASSABESIC’S EARTH DAY: Official Earth Day is 04/22 and Auburn’s Conservation Committee members are interested in planning some Earth Day events for Auburn. Jill Morrison, Anne Gagnon, and Stephanie Hanson will be meeting in March to discuss and plan. There will be signup sheets available for anyone interested in helping out with the Conservation Committee, i.e. helping with the topic of open space and Trash Clean Up Day (see below). OPEN SPACE INFORMATION: Jill Morrison asked in what direction is the Conservation Committee following this topic. Anne Gagnon asked if there was a map that indicated the names of roads in order to correctly identify “open spaces.” Jeff Porter stated a map would be available in May. Chuck Joy stated we have to find ways to find easements. Anne Gagnon asked if contacting the people who wrote the grant could be helpful. There are other people who were knowledge in this area, such as Phil Auger and Sue Hoyt of NRCS and Audubon may have volunteers who are interested in this area. Jill Morrison will ask Jarlene Cornett for her assistance in looking for grants to pursue certain parcels. Jill Morrison will send Jarlene Cornett a copy of the online draft. Anne Gagnon also requested a copy of the Mark West report. Jeff Porter stated the overlays would help with this.
NEW BUSINESS Trash Cleanup Day: Alan Villeneuve suggested we have a Clean Up Day in Auburn, on the morning of 05/08 possibly. The citizens of Auburn would become involved in picking up trash in our neighborhoods, roadsides, etc. The Conservation Committee could provide garbage bags and drop them off at a specified location and the volunteers could be given a hot dog lunch. Duffy Smiley asked Alan if he was interested in organizing such a task and he would gladly help and asked other members to become involved. We could put a notice in the Town Crier. Duffy Smiley will write an article concerning this issue. Alan Villeneuve will get someone to bring bags to the central location.
ADJOURNMENT The next Conservation Committee meeting will be on 04/06/10 at 7:00 p.m. at the Town Hall, unless otherwise specified. Anne Gagnon made a motion to adjourn the meeting and Jeff Porter seconded the motion. The meeting adjourned at 8:06 p.m.
ADDENDUM: Per email notification by Alan Villeneuve concerning Trash Clean Up Day: Rusty Sullivan regarding our "trash" day and he indicated the Lions Club worked on this in the past. I would suggest we coordinate our efforts with them. Alan will speak to them at their next meeting about the possibility.
